Working on Chanteyman trawlers in the American Marine Hong Kong Yard 1961
Extensive damage after Typhoon Wanda Sept.1 1962
All Photographs courtesy Tony Fleming

These Chanteyman boats were under construction when Typhoon Wanda
struck the Anmerican Marine Hong Kong
yard on September 1st 1962.  The photos show two boats on the slipway and at least one more under what remains of the sheds.  The photos would have been taken within a couple of days of the typhoon.

These photographs were taken in early September 1962 so we know that the boat with the name on it would have been imported into Southern California through the ports at Long Beach or LA probably sometime in October 1962.  The other two boats that appear in the pictures will have adjacent hull numbers.       Caption by Tony Fleming

The boat with the name is Mei Yen identified as Hull #12 on the list of hull numbers and initial owners on the website.  Since the yard did not use the #13 on hulls (Chinese superstitions!) the other boats shown may be Hulls # 11 & 14.
